An Early Christmas Gift to Kent and Rhoda!
Soli Deo Gloria!
We are pleased to announce that Cascade Books, a division of Wipf and Stock Publishers, has accepted our book proposal for Journey to Jesus: Faith Formation into Christ and Community. As we stated in the proposal,
Journey to Jesus describes energetic congregations whose adult catechumenate is central to their congregational life. Told through the lens of participants in and leaders of the faith formation process, these congregations will inspire professional and lay leaders in the church to think creatively about connecting with those who are searching for God in the twenty-first century. Although each congregation’s process is distinctive, in all four parishes the adult catechumenate has shaped a missional mindset within the entire church community.
Each congregation has moved beyond “adult membership classes” to a process that speaks of making disciples and of becoming participants in Christ’s body, the Church (not of institutional membership); the process creates a baptismal identity that extends beyond the foundational event toward a lifelong baptismal formation in community. At a time in which Christian congregations are struggling and the percentage of people who self-identify as “Nones” is growing, Journey to Jesus offers hope and inspiration centered in Christ Jesus.
We look forward to working with our editors at Cascade Books for the coming year as we write the remaining portions of the manuscript—especially after reading about the staff on the Wipf and Stock website:
Based in the land of great microbrews and towering Douglas firs, Wipf and Stock Publishers is a creative team, an adventurous bunch who arrive to work with mud still on our shoes from the weekend ride or hike. Our staff handles every step of publication in-house, from customer service to editing and typesetting, from printing and binding to shipping. Committed to writing that honors the imagination, intellect, and heart, we have a simple yet provocative model: with a list as diverse as our Northwest landscape, we publish based on the merits of content rather than marketability. Without agenda, we are shamelessly unapologetic about what we like: relationships, good beer, fine books, and enough coffee to keep us moving. We believe in voice and breadth. From biblical studies to classic theology, poetry to history, our authors are experts, scholars, and artists. By combining innovative technology with academic excellence we are able to produce affordable books of enduring value. Our books never go out of print, and building lasting partnerships is always our focus. (https://wipfandstock.com/our-story/)
We are honored and humbled to have our research work accepted by Cascade Books. We thank God (and the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, which funded our research at four Lutheran congregations) for the opportunity to serve the wider church through this publication.
Soli Deo Gloria!
